Find out how Wikipedia helps make science more reliable, accessible, and open to everyone.
As part of the 2026 Science Festival, check out this exhibition that explores the role of Wikipedia in making science more reliable and accessible to the general public at the University Pharmacy Library.
Given the widespread adoption and now almost routine use of generative artificial intelligence tools to find information, what role might Wikipedia play in mitigating the risks posed by information that can be easily manipulated? How can this collaborative online encyclopedia play a major role in promoting science and critical thinking, and serve as a reliable source of information accessible to everyone?
The Exhibition Wikipedia: The Joy of Sharing explains how Wikipedia and the other tools in the “galaxy” Wikimedia serve science and make reliable scientific knowledge available to everyone. This exhibition also provides an opportunity to showcase the Wikimedia residency hosted at theUniversity of Montpellier. Workshops demonstrating how to create Wikipedia articles and ensure their reliability (rules and, in particular, proper sourcing within articles) are scheduled throughout the event.
This exhibition will then go on tour to the UM’s university libraries.
Workshops demonstrating how to create Wikipedia articles and ensure their reliability (rules, including how to cite sources within articles) are scheduled for October 2, 6, and 8: More info!
